Fermented Soy

Each serving of Your Flora contains 10 million beneficial species of bacteria, including friendly Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. Research suggests that fermented soy is one of the best foods for nurturing a healthy and diverse gut microbiome, thanks to its unique balance of peptides, polyphenols and signalling compounds. We use a special extended kefir-kombucha fermentation to develop the valuable, active compounds and deepen their therapeutic effects. For extra benefits, we also source the very best organic non-GMO soybeans and sprout them for four days prior to fermentation.

Active Compounds

Rich in structural proteins to build healthy tissue including L-glutamine, L-proline and L-glycine.

Contains short chain fatty acids like L-butyrate, and L-propionate that help to support the gut environment, reinforce the digestive lining and reduce inflammation.

Fermented soy also contains vitamins, peptides, minerals, flavonoids, phenolic acids and saponins which protect against oxidative damage.

It also provides neurotransmitters, a rich and diverse array of microbes, enzymes and communicating compounds which are key for digestive, immune and overall health.

Meet the herb

Fennel is a traditional digestive herb whose seeds can be eaten to relax the muscles in the intestines and relieve gas or constipation. In Indian cooking they are often served roasted at the end of a meal to freshen the breath and promote good digestion.

Chamomile is the common name for a group of daisy-like plants found naturally in Western Asia, Western Europe and India, where it is valued for its active botanical compounds. As well as its benefits to digestion, chamomile is also known for being a relaxing herb which promotes sleep and supports a healthy nervous system.

History

Fennel is an upright branching perennial herb that originated in Mediterranean regions, where it still grows in the wild today (‘bitter’ fennel) and was originally cultivated in both Greece and Italy where it was prized for both medicinal and culinary purposes. Today it is still considered a well-known and important medicinal and aromatic plant.

Chamomile is revered as a carminative herb with anti-inflammatory compounds and has been highly valued in plant medicine for more than 4000 years. The name comes from the Greek for ‘apple of the earth’ and the herb was even considered sacred by the Egyptians, who dedicated it to the sun.

Benefits

Fennel is widely considered a carminative, digestive, lactogogue (stimulates milk supply) and diuretic herb and has been traditionally used to aid digestion and relieve issues like bloating, gas, and constipation. One study showed statistically significant benefits from treating IBS patients with a combination of curcumin from turmeric and fennel essential oil.

Chamomile has a long history of traditional use in the treatment of digestive issues including indigestion, nausea, diarrhoea, and stomach ulcers, evidenced by many clinical studies. Chamomile herb possesses carminative, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety properties. One study found that a chamomile extract was as successful as medication in positively modulating markers of gut inflammation in animal models of acute ulcerative colitis.

Key actives

Fennel contains numerous valuable compounds, such as volatile compounds, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, fatty acids, and amino acids.

Phenolic compounds isolated from fennel are considered to be responsible for its antioxidant activity. while the volatile aroma compounds make it an excellent flavouring agent.

Clinical research has indicated the efficacy of fennel’s pharmacological properties such as antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, liver-protective, antispasmodic and even memory-enhancing properties.

Chamomile contains a range of active compounds responsible for its therapeutic effects. Apigenin is a flavonoid compound that has demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) properties with potential to reduce inflammation, relieve anxiety, and improve sleep quality.
