Fermented Soy

Each serving of Your Flora Terrain contains 10 million beneficial species of bacteria, including friendly Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. Research suggests that fermented soy is one of the best foods for nurturing a healthy and diverse gut microbiome, thanks to its unique balance of peptides, polyphenols and signalling compounds. We use a special extended kefir-kombucha fermentation to develop the valuable, active compounds and deepen their therapeutic effects. For extra benefits, we also source the very best organic non-GMO soybeans and sprout them for four days prior to fermentation.

Meet the herb

Aloe vera is a succulent plant that has been used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years. It is native to North Africa, the Middle East, and the Canary Islands.

Slippery elm (Ulmus rubra) is a species of elm tree native to eastern North America and used for centuries in traditional Native American medicines. It is found in the wild throughout the eastern United States and southeastern Canada.

History

The use of aloe vera dates back to ancient civilisations such as Egypt, Greece, and Rome, where it was used to treat a variety of skin conditions and wounds. It continues to be used in traditional medicine practices around the world and used for topical, wound-healing and digestive purposes.

Slippery elm was originally harvested from the tree and the inner bark dried and powdered. It was a staple of Native American tribes and then became more popular among European settlers, eventually finding a place in the United States Pharmacopeia until 1950, recognising its therapeutic uses

Benefits

There are two parts of the aloe vera plant that herbalists use: the clear gel found inside the leaves and a yellow substance called latex, is found just under the plant’s skin. The gel tends to be used for wounds, topical applications such as soothing ointments, and the latex has powerful laxative properties. Some research suggests that aloe vera may have beneficial effects on the digestive system, such as reducing symptoms of acid reflux and constipation, and improving the integrity of the intestinal lining in leaky gut.

Slippery elm is prized for its inner bark, which when mixed with water, produces a sticky substance called mucilage that has slippery, soothing properties, useful for coating and protecting irritated mucous membranes, such as sore throats, coughs, skin irritations or an inflamed intestinal tract. When taken internally it swells and stimulates normal bowel motility, making it a useful ingredient in cases of diarrhoea or constipation.

Key actives

Anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties: Aloe vera contains compounds called anthraquinones that have been shown to have anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects.

Wound-healing properties: Aloe Vera contains complex polysaccharides with a variety of actions including anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and moisturising and emollient effects.

Slippery elm’s mucilage is composed of polysaccharides, including arabinose, xylose, rhamnose, and galacturonic acid, which contributes to its soothing, demulcent properties.

Flavonoids: Slippery elm contains various flavonoid compounds, such as quercetin and kaempferol, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties as well as beneficial plant sterols.
