Meet the herb

Woman is an Ayurvedic formula combining fermented ashwagandha, shatavari, and holy basil: these bio-activated herbs are designed for hormonal harmony and formulated to help with modern day stresses that can affect this balance.

Ashwagandha is a small evergreen shrub that originates from parts of India, the Middle East and Africa. It is frequently referred to as ‘Indian ginseng’ because of its rejuvenating properties.

Shatavari is also known as asparagus racemosus. It is considered a rasayana (rejuvenating) herb for the female reproductive system and has powerful strengthening and nourishing properties.

Holy basil (also known as Tulsi) is a green leafy plant native to India. It is an adaptogen, and one of the most sacred plants in India, and considered the Queen of herbs for its rejuvenating properties.

History

Ashwagandha is an ancient herb. It has been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine for its stress relieving, energy supporting, and cognitive benefits.

Shatavari root has been long used for ageing prevention, longevity enhancement, fertility promotion, and menopausal symptom reduction. It is frequently used in reproductive disorders linked to stress (1). In Ayurveda, shatavari has been traditionally used as one of the important herbs to support female health through the life cycle.

Holy basil has been used for 3,000 years in Aryuvedic medicine. It Is used as an adaptogen to counter life stresses. Traditionally, it has been used for anxiety and stress and it is considered a tonic for mind, body and spirit.

Benefits

Fertility

Studies suggest shatavari may improve female reproductive health complications including hormonal imbalance, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), follicular growth and development, oocyte quality and infertility, possibly by reducing oxidative stress levels and increasing antioxidant levels in the body (1).

Hormonal balance

Ashwagandha and holy basil are adaptogens which support the body's resilience to stress. Chronic stress leads to an increased production of cortisol, which can decrease progesterone and thyroid hormone production, and cause issues with hormonal balance.

Mood

Studies have found supplementation with holy basil and ashwagandha decreases stress hormone levels, lower levels are associated with improved mood and decreased anxiety (2;3).

Thyroid health

Research shows that ashwagandha significantly improved thyroid hormone levels in women with subclinical hypothyroidism (4).

Key actives

Ashwagandha contains many beneficial elements including flavonoids and antioxidants, amino acids, neurotransmitters, triterpenes and more, which are responsible for many of its benefits. Its isoflavones and flavonoids may support fertility (5)

Shatavari has more than 50 organic compounds including steroidal saponins, glycosides, alkaloids, polysaccharides, mucilage and isoflavones responsible for its benefits (6).

Holy basil contains ocimumosides which have anti-stress properties (7). Scientific studies have shown that eugenol is another compound that helps to combat stress and enhance mental clarity (8). It is also rich in triterpenoids which can improve the body's response to stress.
