Meet the herb

Shatavari is also known as asparagus racemosus. It is derived from Sanskrit and can be translated to ‘curer of a hundred diseases.’ The term also translates as the ability to have one hundred husbands, and it has traditionally been used to support and strengthen reproductive health (1). It is considered a rasayana (rejuvenating) herb for the female reproductive system and has powerful strengthening and nourishing properties. It commonly grows in tropical and subtropical parts of India, Sri Lanka and the Himalayas.

History

The root has long been used for anti-ageing, longevity enhancement, fertility promotion, and menopausal symptom reduction. It is frequently used in reproductive disorders linked to stress (2). In Ayurveda, shatavari has been traditionally used as one of the important herbs to support female health through the life cycle.

Benefits

organic fermented shatavari

Hormonal health

Studies suggest shatavari may improve female reproductive health complications including hormonal imbalance, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), follicular growth and development, oocyte quality and infertility possibly by reducing oxidative stress levels and increasing antioxidant levels in the body (2).

Longevity

Shatavari is well known for its anti-ageing and longevity effects, as well as benefits for immunity, mental function, and bringing vitality to the body (3).

Menopause

In Ayurvedic medicine, shatavari is known as the ‘female rejuvenator’ and is believed to help combat heat and dryness - both uncomfortable aspects of the menopause. Many menopausal symptoms happen due to low oestrogen. Shatavari contains phytoestrogens, a plant-based, dietary form of oestrogen.
