Meet the herb

Red ginseng, sometimes known as ‘all-healing man root’, is a special root prized in Chinese medicine, popular for reinvigorating the libido and supporting general vitality. It is one of the most widely used adaptogenic herbs and highly valued for its uplifting and stamina-boosting properties.

History

Red ginseng is one of the most widely used adaptogenic herbs and highly valued as an important folk medicine in East Asian countries, including China, Korea, and Japan, for more than 2000 years (1).

It is revered in China as a herb for everything with applications for a wide range of diseases. Its Latin name Panax–derived from the Greek panacea–meaning that is, for everything (2).

Key actives

The major bioactive compounds of red ginseng are its ginseng saponins, known as ginsenosides, which have been researched for their positive benefits to the nervous system.

The structural diversity of ginsenosides may contribute to the multiple pharmacological effects of ginseng on diabetes, inflammation, stress, immune, cardiovascular system, and CNS (1).

Research shows that fermenting the herb increases antioxidant activity (8).
