Meet the herb
Benefits
Anti-inflammatory: Considered one of the most important herbs in Ayurvedic medicine and is one of the world’s most well-known herbs for its anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric helps modulate inflammatory mediators such as cyclo-oxygenase 2 (COX-2), prostaglandins, and leukotrienes (2).
Joint health: Several studies have shown turmeric has an ability to manage pain and inflammation in cases of arthritis or joint pain. Compared with placebo, there appears to be a benefit of turmeric on knee osteoarthritis pain and function. Based on a small number of studies the effects are similar to that of NSAIDs (3).
Digestive health: Turmeric is considered a digestive bitter and a carminative. It is a cholagogue, stimulating bile production in the liver and encouraging excretion of bile via the gallbladder (4)..
Liver health: It has been extensively studied for its hepatoprotective effects, and its curcuminoids may offer promise to prevent oxidative stress related liver disorder (5). Turmeric is under active evaluation as an anti-inflammatory agent, for the therapy of liver diseases (1).
