Meet the herb

Tranquillity is a blend of lavender, lemon balm & ashwagandha; these bio-activated herbs are designed to support calm and inner peace.

Lavender belongs to the lamiaceae family of plants. It has a distinctive aroma to calm the senses, and is prized for its benefits for restlessness, anxiety and sleep.

Lemon balm is a fragrant, sweet-smelling herb and a member of the mint family, with similar carminative properties. The herb is native to Europe, North Africa, and West Asia, but it’s grown around the world.

Ashwagandha is a small evergreen shrub that originates from parts of India, the Middle East and Africa. It is frequently referred to as ‘Indian ginseng’ because of its rejuvenating properties. It is classified as an adaptogen, due to its ability to help the body resist and adapt to stress.

 History

Lavender has been used for over several thousand years as a medicinal plant in the forms of tea, inhalation therapies, and oils to treat anxiety and stress (1).

Lemon balm has been used for over 2000 years as a nervine herb to support cognitive function and mood. It is one of the primary herbs in Shamanic herbal alchemy, and traditionally used to calm the nervous system.

Ashwagandha has been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine for its stress relieving, energy supporting, and cognitive benefits. It is known as a rasayana which describes a herb that promotes a youthful state of physical and mental health and expands happiness (2).

Research published in 2014 reported positive effects of lemon balm on various aspects of mood, including reduced levels of anxiety (3). Studies have found supplementation with ashwagandha decreases stress hormone levels, lower levels are associated with improved mood (4).

Anxiety: Participants who took lemon balm self-reported an increased sense of calmness (5). Ashwagandha assists your body in managing stress and anxiety more effectively, reducing stress and cortisol levels (6). Lavender has been shown to have an anxiolytic effect (7).
